THREE ENTREPRENEURS BREAKTHRU IN NEW BRUNSWICK
Business plan competition puts out nearly $250,000 to get three new businesses off the ground
FREDERICTON – Six months of intense competition ended in November with a green light for Miramichi-based company Greenlight Geomatics after winning the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation’s Breakthru business plan competition. Taking the platinum prize valued at $140 thousand, Greenlight won for an automated technology that uses both global position systems (GPS) and geological information systems (GIS) to meticulously map and control herbicide spray along railway lines without affecting sensitive areas. Created by land surveyor Herman Koops, the winning team was lead by UNB students Brad Pierce, Kahled Taha and John Lord. Greenlight will receive a $100 thousand equity investment from the Innovation Foundation, plus $40 thousand in services from a number of professional firms. They were also given the award for best-written business plan.
